Our M-Fibre side light fibre system offers outstanding possibilities in vehicle interiors to implement functional and decorative linear lighting or indirect ambient lighting. Where classic injection moulding technology reaches its limits because light guide lengths are over one metre, M-Fibre plays to its strengths.
Side light fibre: for direct linear light and indirect ambient lighting
Combined with RGB LED modules for one or two-sided light injection, thin, flexible side light fibres enable lighting solutions that are optimised to the installation space and can be installed flexibly over lengths of up to several metres. Plastic optical fibres (POFs for short) in the desired length are activated here, i.e. they are provided with individual light-emitting surface structures. They are then bundled together and inserted in a diffusing sheath. This produces fibres that are a cut above thanks to their homogeneous light density, with no visible colour deviations even in tight radii, with a radiation angle of 360°. Inside the LED module, a precision optic ensures perfect coloured light mixing and efficient light injection into the individual fibres.
Depending on the application, the fibres can be activated across their entire length or only partially. With partial activation, only specific areas of the side light fibre are lit up specifically and with minimal loss. This prevents undesired scattered light and optimises the efficiency of the integrated lighting system. With this technology, multi-coloured applications and running lights or similar dynamic lighting scenarios are also possible. As side light fibres can easily be integrated into free-form surfaces too, there are practically no limits to how they can be used: they can be installed in door panels, cockpits or centre consoles, and even in the footwell or boot.
